Reference Photo

This was my original photograph.

Tonal Underpainting

I began by painting a value painting of yellow to achieve a glow underneath the other layers of paint. This is a new idea that I am trying out. I also used acrylic medium and gold powder to define the pattern in the skirt.

Beginning Washes

I begin adding skin tones with Rose Madder Genuine (RMG), Aureolin Yellow(AY) and Cobalt Blue (CB). I also began layering the blue in the skirt.

Continue Glazing

I build up the layers of color.

Adding More Color

I continue to add washes of different mixtures of RMG ans AY ans CB and adding washes of violet and different browns to the hair.

Add the Background

The background is different mixes of what I already had on the palette.
